Therapies and Treatments

Integrated Approach

I am a qualified integrative therapist and trained to apply a variety of modalities. This allows me to utilise a broad range of therapeutic approaches and implement different treatments to tailor and suit each clients’ requirement.

P

sychodynamic

Psychodynamic therapy, focuses on unconscious processes as they are manifested in a person’s present behaviour. This approach enables the client to examine unresolved conflicts and symptoms that arise from the past.

A client is encouraged to talk and explore their feelings, beliefs and thoughts and sometimes, relevant aspects of events from their childhood.

As a result, the work can last over a long term. Brief psychotherapy is also possible, especially to help someone resolve a more immediate crisis.

Person- Centred

Person or client-centred therapy focuses on the 'here and now'. Being holistic in style, this looks at factors such as free will and creativity. It is based on the view that given the right conditions, everyone has the capacity and desire for personal growth and change.

Rather than directing the therapy, the counsellor offers unconditional positive regard, empathy and congruence to help the client come to terms with any negative feelings and to change and develop in their own way.

CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy)

CBT therapy looks to combine both cognitive therapy and behavioural therapy in order to tackle the thought process and resulting behaviours.

This is based upon the concept that our thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap us in a vicious cycle.

By applying CBT techniques, a client can change these negative patterns to improve the way they feel. Unlike some other talking treatments, CBT deals with current issues, rather than focusing on the past.

Solution-Focused Therapy

SFBT is a goal-directed collaborative approach to psychotherapeutic change that is conducted through direct observation of clients' responses to a series of constructed questions.

Focus is placed upon the present and future circumstances and goals, rather than past experiences.

The therapist encourages the client to develop a vision of the future, and offers therapeutic support as they determine the skills, resources, and abilities needed to achieve this vision successfully.

EFT (Emotional Freedom Therapy)

EFT is a form of counselling intervention that draws on various theories of alternative medicine – including acupuncture, neuro-linguistic programming and energy medicine.

During a EFT session, the therapist will facilitate and guide the client to recite specific phases that target an emotional component of a physical symptom, whilst tapping on the end points of the body’s energy meridians.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention to the present, rather than becoming overly focused on either regrets from the past, or worried about the future.

This state encompasses observing one’s thoughts and feelings without judging them as good or bad. This allows the client to be more aware of their physical and emotional conditions without getting absorbed in self-criticism and judgement.

Today, mindfulness is frequently applied in meditation and in conjunction with other types of therapies.
